Willibrord Park

Despite the fact that there is no snow but cold in Montreal/Verdun, the Willibrord park is in full operation thanks to the artificial rink, courtesy of the Montreal Canadien Hockey club (Molsons). We didn't have such luxuries in our time and we relied on mother nature and had a grand time anyway.

The only thing I think they have wrong are the dimensions they quote:
In this video I am sure they quoted 200' x 80' However I always thought the NHL dimensions were actually 200' x 85'........? Unless I misheard what he said at the beginning of the speech.
In anycase it's a fantastic addition to Verdun ,and I would love to one day skate here just for Fun (like the old days),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Cheers ! HF&RV - Les

I fondly remember, with tears in my eyes, playing in the Norman Dawes Memorial league and although based at the rink on Brown blvd, used to play other teams at Wiilebrod also. I remember my mother and father having to walk me through the lane ways to get to the various rinks to play. Also recall we had to help "Pop" of the park, clean the rink off as well. Good times, good memories.

Yes every park had 'Pops' who sat in the old change room ,& I also remember he would get a bunch of snow plow type shovels & all us kids couldn't wait to help clean off the rink, from some new fallen snow....the quicker we got it done the quicker we could get the game going.. and you are definetly right on the Good Times -Good Memories . ps: he also policed us from staying in the warm shack too long ,so everyone got a turn to warm up or drink some water from the fountain, which btw: had terrible water pressure.....lol
.and at Willibrord Park Pops Smoked a Pipe & the smell of the pipe tobaco would be a familiar scent whenever you walked into the 'shack' ( I think every 'Pops' smoked apipe, didn't they ? lol
