horse and buggy, who had one around 1949

there was a guy i remember used to drive a horse and buggy along bannantyne ave around 1949, any input on this, was it pennisten or gary allan.
thanks to anyone with this info,
carolyn.
i was just a kid 6yrs at that time but it has left a footprint in my mind as well as the hollyhocks and wild rhubarb in the lanes.

It might have been Allen, who if I remember right was once mayor of Verdun. Allen street is named for him. He owned Troy Laundry which employed about 500 people. It was a thriving business since so may Verdun houses were cold water flats. His horses were all shiny black and the wagons immaculate. For his personal use he had white horses. The coach house in which he kept his personal stock and carriage can still be seen in back of 99 Troy Avenue where he used to live. There was a scandal concerning him after he was out of office. It was discovered that he was using Verdun water for his laundry business where he had claimed to be using water from the river.      Ed

They say you're only as old as you feel Les. If that's true, then I was there when Verdun began.                                          Ed

Carolyn,   Gary Allens Dad bought Gary a pony when Gary was around 4 or 5 yrs old I believe.  They lived on 2nd avenue, and we lived on 3rd ave, they brought the pony around and you would sit on this pony and for a fee have your photo taken on it.  I have a portrait of myself on this same pony when I was around 4 years old, around that age anywho,as Gary is one year older than me. Not a bad pet for a kid of 4 yrs old,eh?  There must be other kids from 2nd ave and 3rd and more streets that had their photo taken on that pony?   cookie sam, sandra

sam they moved out near me, at end of bannantyne, so maybe the horse moved too, i remember in the garage, is it possible.

No, the horse didn't move with them...they moved from 2nd ave to Bannantyne, bought the building...Gary & I were childhood sweeties from age 15 to approx. 18 yrs old,we lived on Allard, funnily enough when we were both 4 yrs old back on 3rd and 2nd ave,we met at such a young age, who would have thought we'd get together in our teens...musta' been meant to be !   cookie, sam, sandra (smile)
