The Pope of Verdun

Does anyone remember seeing the Pope of Verdun at any big parades.  He would be sport  some very interesting costumes.
Was he just a "character"  or did he have some religious affiliation ?

I believe I've posted this before. Andre Brabant was a flamboyant and harmless character. He worked in the engine room of many ships for two decades. He once told me that his biggest regret was being unable to read. There were no radios that would reach into ships innards then and his time watching the guages were long.  I tried to teach him to read when he was dying but he could not concentrate. He declared himself 'Le Pape de L'universe' The costumes he wore were designed on Priest's robes and he was taught to sew by his Mother. He loved the notariaty they brought him. His last claim to fame was playing Santa Claus for the Verdun Parade just before the AIDS took him.              Ed
