I know it's not for everyone ,but I can Remember being a 'car nut' growing up in Verdun,..........and Wellington Street,...always had it's share of 'cool' cars.............hahahaha (at least we thought some were neat)......... pssst: see how I tied a Verdun theme in there.............hahahahaha
Popdog has a couple of neat trucks ,...............Heres a n original 1957 Chevy Step-Side,.....pick up ,that sold last year for only $10260USD that's decent for this type of truck.............but you can spen lots more for sure the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction,...........generally runs normal stuff for the first few days ,..and the TV stuff of course will usually be the 'HighEnd' stuff, along with upper end prices........... ........this '57 looks fairly clean for it's year,.and nothing special done to it,.. ..........it could be a head turner with little work,really.

Do You Remember when CKVL bought 2 of those Amphicars? I Remember it ,.and it was a big deal,.all us kids would run up to the River ,when we heard through the street grapevine ,that they (CKVL)..were going to drive into the river,......Wow that was a BigDeal for us kids to see a 'car/boat' do it's thing......... I just saw oone on todays Speedvision replay of last January's Auction, Sold for just over $110,000.USD ad to that the 8% buyers fee,.......YIKES they were never very popular, as they were considered ,not a very good car,.... and not a very good boat either.............hahahahahabut they do for serious dough.now.......................
Hey Les, are you aware that if you don't like the final bid on your car you can keep it by paying the high bidder the highest bid price, there were a number of cars last year that didn't change hands, the ones the broadcaster kept saying were great deals less than $10,000 went home with their owners
Unfortunately they only seem to show cars that appeal to the wealthy fanatics. I always find it strange that somewhat would expend $100,000 to restore a car and then sell it for $70,000. I wouldn't mind owning some old boat to motor around in. I always liked the 1959 and 1960 Buicks. Gord Gibbons
Yes Dzwldawg,....there's always a way around the No Reserve,...but it would entail you having to make the final bid (or have someone do it) ,..& then you would pay the'buyers premium',..........Barrett-Jackson...Auction gets paid no matter what,.....but for TV sake they put on a real good show,.......They do have some beautiful cars though,............ I cannot beleive alot of the prices,.as they just do not seem realistic whatsoever,,,,,,when a Chevelle can sell or be bid to $1,150,000USD,,,for a 1970 BigBlock Chevelle Convertible ???........... I sure hope some of these buyers are around looking for my Big Block.......hahahahah

For the Car people out there,......the Barrett-Jackson ,Classic Car Auction, starts on TV today at 7pm Eastern, 4pm Pacific,...... it will run for a few days,.with the higher end (code for ridiculously expensive)going through closer to the weekend....................... The show will undoubtably be repeated, several times,.. but they do have some nice looking vehicles,.....both Dead Stock,....as Well as Some interesting Customs,...... So Remember all those old cool cars we all had growing up,....Well some of them are worth some Do-Re-Mi,......... So now we can think back & say "I wish I had that old - -- - - - now" as well as some old Hockey Cards,...or Beatles Stuff,....or etc etc ........

heres a example why these toys cost so much, this one is called a street rod 75% done, chopped 4 inches, lowered 2 inches, new trany, shift kit, new 350 block billet products, ceramic coating on headers, brake, ful lines etc, newcustom leather interior, gauges, wiring, halgeon ites, led etc, all new gm restore parts streering column, wheel, pedals, chrome,stainless steel bolts, screws custom paint, all body parts painted installed after, paint color lamburghi gold 6 coats clear, wetsand after every clear coat, to get that finish. judges looking at these toys look at every detail for the trophy points they are done better than new from the gm plant. all done professionally

Some decent rides cruising through there,...there at lot #720 right now: ........Intteresting stuff ,for people who enjoy cars & appreciate thte efforts that go into them............. It's true what they say,about custom work,....."it's not just ,what you see,that costs money,......but what you don't see" like all the stainless bolts ,etc etc....it's all money.......

later all the new leather interior.

last summer i smoked the tires while dragging

I know you said you go to the Big one you mentioned last summer ( I forget where ,.was it London ??)......................I love car shows,.you can roam around in the sun ,.and just look at all the stuff that's been restored,.and even the ones that haven't ,are neat to see,as they remind us of the days when we were kids ,.and saw alot of these things first hand:

hi Walter (Metalman),...it's too bad that the organizer's of these events,.couldn't put together a bunch of Sponsors to help with the cost of fuel....as these people who have made it a labour of love to fix their cars & trucks up to share them with everyone else,..It would be easy to get a list of people who would definetly participate ahead of time,..and then a local sponsor who will spend thousands for air time on radio or TV,.....could instead splash there own names across the Car Show (usually at a local Mall or Restaurant,....and spend the money towards bringing these people with the cars in: It would be easy to do: It's a shame that these weekend escapes for people are no longer affordable:

the truck was all new gm restoration body parts
just the frame and cab was kept.
all parts were painted peice by piece, no bondo here
if you look close at barret jackson, its mostly the
same buyers and sellers every year.
those cars get fliped every year?
to me its like playing the stocks with these cars
they will spike and in time they will drop?
just 6 years ago nobody wanted the corvetes
today a big ticket.
my problem is you just can't stop it has to be finished
i know how your buddy spending 90k feels.

hi Walter ,.Metalman,.right you are,...I read an ad for that 67 stepside today ,.that the owner Jim e-mailed me,saying he had over 1000 hrs,.of Personal Time into te Truck,.but He was also tellinmg me about all the car shows that he & his wife enjoyed going to together,over the years Here on Vancouver Island,but his wife passed away about 10 years ago,.and he has sort of lost interest in his old toy ,.that's why he decided to list it for sale,I just got off the phone with him,sort of sounds like a sad story,.but he wants to get on with a new chapter of his life ,.even the painter who did the original Burgundy Paint Job (base coat .clear coat etc etc ,.You understand that stuff) well that painter died a few years back too,..a young man really 43ish,.....Bill Ferny owned Ferny's Auto Body out here ,.I knew him too,& went to his funeral,.but like I say small world,.I never knew that he painted this 1967 truck of Jim's So I guess he's just clearing out old memories,,,,,,,,but he's had this thing for as long as I can Remember.....I suppose he has many memories of days gone by,& has decided to look forward,rather than back,..................... As for the guy with te 90K truck He can afford it,.......and like I say didn't sppend one ounce of thought or sweat into his truck,..just $$$$$,.......... but I sort of feel sorry for old Jim,& his truck,.as it seems to hold a lot of his thoughts ...........He has agreed to let me have a look at the old Album he has from his trucks first days,...(he sort of saved it,I guess,it used to belong to the Plant Foreman of a Cement Comoany out here called Bamberton Cement(being developped these days by some big money car dealer ,Mercedes),but he has pictures apprently of this 1967 stepside from it's days as a yard truck,.all the way through it's transformation to a really good looking burgundy stepside today: He did do a great job........... Walter (Metalman),............what kind of fuel do you have to use,.after you chipped the T/A,............Do you use teh Chevron 94 oct,.then use an additive as well? Or is it tuned to run on what they call premium nowadays the 94 octane, Remember back in the 'good old days' when you could select from most stations,....( I used Sunoco mostly,for my big block),.in those days you could buy at the pump 110 octane,......and I think the Regular Gas was about ,94 ,which is what tey call Premium today.............. Also Remember all the different GAs Stations that were around ,which made it slightly competitive ,.........Fina,.Sunoco,.Texaco,.....Esso,.......B/P,.....B/A........, as well as some of the smaller ones like White Rose ,...Calex,.......and then Turbo ??something or other......................... Nowadays the biggest have survived ,.and bought up almost all of the individual stations,.and they dictate policiy to them,....First the stations had to get rid of their service departments,..and they all put in 'Convienence Stores' hahahahah they make more money selling over priced stufff,.rather than take the heat for poor repairs,.and no need to stock racks full of tires anymore,or have to pay good mechanics higher wages,.....when then can pay a kid minimum wage to sit at a cash register,and generally provid eno service: I worked at the Texaco at 3rd & Champlain in Ville Lasalle,.........and we were taught to automatically ,check the oil for people ,we pumped the gas of course) ,.and checked people's tires often,.as well as helping with topping up the master cylinders for people,............and push those tir racks in everynight & out every morning,....and we washed the whole Garage Floor,a couple of times a week,..................mopped it down with a grease cutter,...and then pressured washed & then used the floor squeegee,.........hahahahahaha and the Gas was .41 cents a Gallon(for reg),..and .51 cents for Premium a Gallon,.......................................Yikes have times ever changed,......... .........roughly the same price as bjying cigarettes in those days for either a small pack or the large 25 pack,...................... Like Bob Dylan says ....."Things Have Changed"............

tells me, they give the gas out at cost at times

the only problem he tells me is to watch the employees

Is this true Montreal Police are using Smart Cars, as part of their fleet,........ ..Interesting,....................... Smart Car Coming Here? Even The Cops Could Drive Them In Montreal. I've written about the Smart car before, wondering whether it can work here and whether it's coming. Now it is, and I still wonder. They have them in Montreal, where they also have some big American cars and SUVs. Great for parking in town; lousy for fender-benders. Click for larger. That's not a Smart Car the cops are using, but it could be - just take the doors off one.

The truck is 29/30 vintage. The diamond in front identifies it as REO DIAMOND T REO (Ransom E. Olds) made trucks so strong the British bought and used them in both wars for supply carriers. They were great to drive. The first truck I drove with power sreering was a REO. Ed

hey-lad thanks for the replie, found this one from florida on ebay close call won it by 48 seconds for 2200.00. the usa has lots of cars on ebay, 15 years or older is no problems into canada. this one i had a little road bump, now i know what to do next time with the canadian dollar over 9o+ cents you can find good deals on ebay look at the southern cars they are rust free
fresco the total cost was 2200.00 plus 12 k for the restore, with motor work included stainless steel exhaust, gas shocks, all leaks fixed, found those corvette wheels pearl red paint job, repair leather interior, new disks, brakes, front end fixed rad and tranny flush, electric water pump, plugs, wires, windsheild, new red carpet on floor, new speakers, radio i got from ebay, decals, etc. for only 14,200.00 i have a almost new car?

Talk about the old REO, When I was 17 I went with a freind to the Ford dealer (Name escapes me) at the end of Bannantyne to look at a car. They had a 1927 Essex that looked like some farmer had painted it with a pot of ink and a rag. Being 17 and having drank a whole two quarts I bought the thing for $25. plus two dollars for the licence plate. It had 4 cylinders and a rumble seat just like John Boy's car. My Father wouldn't let me keep it in the driveway so I painted it Light blue with French blue trim. With white walls she looked every inch a lady. Unfortunately, the left front wheel kept coming off. I hated having to chase it down the street. A friend said he had to go somewhere and needed a car. I told him to take the Essex. I guess he took me literally. I never saw him or the car again. Ed

Well we just had a neat weeked here in Victoria,....we had over 700 ...... and yea that's alot of cars ,....as it was North West Deuces Day in Victoria, with the feature being all the best NW '32 Ford Deuce Coupes,..from this end of the continent....................People with 1 & 2 Hundred Thousand Dollars Investeded in Some of these cars,...........unbelievable cars,......... Imagine Some cars with more Invested,...than buildings in a lot of community's............YIKES............. VICTORIA - Car enthusiasts from around the world are in the capital city and most of them brought their cars with them. On Sunday, more than 750 Deuce Coupes will be on display around the inner harbour as part of Northwest Deuce Day. The event, which was organized by Al Clark promises one of the most impressive displays of vintage hot rods ever seen in Victoria. Northwest Deuce Day runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 29th. Admission is free but donations are being accepted to help cover costs. .........All over Our town since Thursday ,..we've had all these visitors coming her with their Prestige Cars ,.to celebrate the 75th Anniversary,of the '32 Ford Coupe.........................but the town was filled with all kinds of really great looking rides,...........................Unbelievable Sights to be Seen,..if your a Car Nut............or afficianado............ HF&RV I'll see if the local rag,has some good pics.of all the rides parked around town............................................................... Collectors consider the model historically significant because the new V8 engine brought luxury-car performance to a low-cost car.
