4 Tiny Tina

Hi Tiny Tina,.....here are some pics of a Restaurant that has been around Victoria for a long long time,...it is a converted CP Ship,.....
the Princess Mary,......it is closing up ,...and Powell River has purchased it to display in your Maritime Museum,......I understand that museum already has some artifacts from it eg: the ships Bell,.etc etc .....
part of it ,(the ship part ,obviously) will be barged up to your part of the world in Jan,.... so before it disappeared for good from here I thought I'd take some shots of it now,.........

They must be filming a movie nearby ,.or perhaps filming a documentary on the final days of this ship's history here inVictoria,....??? but there was quite a few mobile dressing rooms,,and canteen trucks here too,.(but it's not unusual as movies are being filmed in Victoria, with great regularity)Just thought I'd ad one more picture:

Have a good Christmas up there Tina.............................

Just alittle background to the  SS Princess Mary,.built for service , as a Westcoast Steamer: S.S.  PRINCESS  MARY PRINCESS MARY  was built by Bow, McLachlan & Company of Paisley, Scotland in 1910, her length was 210 feet, and gt. 1697, and was 40 feet wide, powered with twin triple-expansion steam engines, with trial speed of 15 knots, her service speed was 12 knots. She had 59 first class cabins, and 30 second class berths. She sailed from Greenock on Nov. 22, 1910, and after a rough 85  day passage she arrived in Victoria on Feb. 15, 1911. She took over the Victoria, Nanaimo, Comox run, but she was soon put on the Gulf Island run, where she stayed for most of her life, and for which she was best remembered. In 1914 at Esquimalt, she was lengthened to an overall 260 feet, and this increased her gt. to 2155. At this time she was also converted to an oil burner from her original coal.
After over 40 years of coastal service she was sold in 1952, and made into a covered deck barge, and renamed "Carrier #2"  -  Under tow of the tug CHELAN she and the tug and 14 lives were lost on April 15, 1954 near Cape Decision, Alaska.
She will always be remembered, as part of her still remains. Her superstructure was taken ashore in Victoria, and made into the Princess Mary Resturant, and remains there today as one of the favorite dining places in Victoria. .........................Now destined for Powell River: Powell River launches pitch for Princess Mary http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/story.html?id=daef9f90-f154-4f78-8876-1c51a753422e&k=37441

One has to admit though it is a shame Victoria couldn't hold on to it herself.

Hi Tina , the property the Princess Mary ,is on is a large valuable waterfront,...and it will all be developped ,....the original land I think is owned by the Shipyard ,and surrounding ship related business's,...... So I imagine it lived out it's usefullness as a restaurant, and it has to go!! Progress  !!!  ???......................
