Interesting Guy,.......the topics have many separate threads,...and most are recounts of Verdun Days Gone By,.............Memories seem to be the driving engine of the VerdunConnections site,............Which is great ,...and we encourage everyone to add any old memory or add old pictures,....etc ec Also as I do every so often,.I suggest that we all take a look through all the Photo Albums that are available,...or checkout some of the many fine 'Links' we have available through here too !............Anything that sparks an old thought or story.or uncovers another old photo,would Really be appreciated by all. .........................................Remember to Have Fun & Remember Verdun (thought I'd forgotten that ,sign off didn't you.............hahahahaha --- ---or hoped I had...............hjahahahahahah)

Yes the old bathtubs,.......they got real popular with antique hunters for a few years,...out here you can see some of them in fields,on rural farms (aren't all farms rural.......hahaha) but some like them ,..teh old 'clawfoot tubs' are the popular ones, Also Remember when people tried to 'modernize' there bathrooms in the flats in Verdun,.by building a plywood boz around the old round corners to give it the more modern square-ish tubs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Great old Photo Sandy,........ Hello Winston,....the name of the Vet in the picture is J.H.Turnbull,legionnaire of the Verdun branch.......... I imagine this man was a WWI veteran,...........I wonder if any of Our present day members ever go to the Legion on Verdun Avenue,...it would be interesting to see if he is known there,.perhaps he has a plaque on the wall in there?? I wonder if his family would like a copy of this ? I 'd be happy to send them one,.....if anyone knows Mr Turnbull,....or more likely his family,.then it would good to hear from them.Your right though he does have a familiar type face,...it was always quite something as a youngster to meet a soldier,.....they were like superheroes to us as kids.......... I also like the old Poppy Box,with that can with the white label on it,.....Years later I was in Sea Cadets,and also Help Sell Poppy's,........and marched in some rainy .cold weather........hahahahah then we'd get a hot chocolate,after the parade,....hahahahah and those old uniforms were real 'scratchy' and had to be pressed just right,.......it was cool to have a lanyard too...............hahahahah A long time ago..........
Hi Sandy,..Teresa's friend paid 200 and something,.but she is thrilled to be going,and has some really good seats I guess,....I think the normal tickets do run about a hundred,.....i don't know if the proceeds are for a cause or not,I just thought it would go to the speaker,.......I will have to check into that,maybe there is more than one speaker here too,......but I had thought it was just the Pres. (I even tried to win some tickets through a local radio email thing,but I didn't win,..)

Rex Turnbull's Father was named William. I had many good conversations with him when he worked as a 'Pop' in Queen Elizabeth Park for two years. I think Bill worked for the Railway.I can't remember if Bill ever mentioned being in the war and I can't remember Rex's younger brother's name even though we went to school together. I seem to remember they lived on Moffat or Manning above Verdun. The other pop at Q.E. Park was John Cosgrove an old Brit who was a veteran of both wars. Ed

Here are pictures in my youth circa 1940s when I went to Notre Dame du C챕nacle school. at 4010 Bannantyne. The school was demolished and replaced with an appartment or condo bldg, the same happened to Bannantyne school. .
Sandy, We had that type of bathtub also on Galt in the 30s, 40s and 50s. The big problem was trying to clean behind the tub, dirt and junk would accumulate there creating an hyegene problem. Guy
People used to paint the outside of the tub, except around the side that was near the wall. Those tubs (in good shape) are worth quite a bit out here.

Here in Nova Scotia there are many heritage homes and people are buying these old tubs and having them refinished so they can be reused as bath tubs. I saw one where they painted the outside black and it look beautiful in the all white bathroom. Dianne
Yes...refinishing and reusing. Many of them out here were never removed from the houses when renovations took place, so they are in not bad shape. I guess that when they were removed often the fancy feet were lost. On the other hand, I've seen a couple that were out in the farmer's fields as water troughs for cattle!!! Go figure. Cheers.
Linda I have seen that here in the Maritimes too! My daughter and her husband have a 200 year old house in Saint John N.B. and they gutted the bathroom and then bought a huge whirl pool tub, I have never seen one so big, they paid a fortune for it and it looks like the old fashioned tubs of yore! Ah, the young! dianne

Do you remember when you had to heat the water up on the stove first? this is before hot water tanks.....glad those days are gone, especially since we all like those long showers.....
Here's a good one, we were 3 kids so when bathtime came around we used to fill the tub and leave the water for the next one when we were finished!!! I only shudder what the water must have been like by 3rd kid. But we were lucky as we had a bath every night. We had friends who only had a bath once a week. Cheers.
Yes I recall the heating the kettle up first ,....to ad to the tub,..........hahahaha and we all had a huge silver kettle with the bottom as blach as (remember this Toby's ass).............hahahahahahah The kettle was always heated up on the Gas Stove and the bottom was black: Remeber how the bottom of those old pots & ketlles got black,.....Look at this old stove and te pans on it,.........I just like this old picture,and have no idea who the old character in it is.....Do You ? Dianne, Bea and I got our bath first and second, and my poor brother got the bath last as he was the youngest and we just knew he peed in the tub (grossed us out, but isn't that just like younger brothers....pests!!!). Cheers.

My brother was 10 years younger than me, so he was usually in bed by the time my "suitors" came courting, lol. But I remember sitting on the front gallery with my boyfriend, light on of course, and when my mom used to come out rattling the glass milk bottles (with the milk ticket stuck in the neck of the bottle) I knew it was time to say salut to the boyfriend.
