I see an overpass in Laval has just collapsed,...no word about any injuries,......but I seem to Remember not that long ago,..another overpass in Laval collapsing,...and in that one I believe one person was fatally injured,
What's with the Overpass's ,...I would think some engeinering inspections will have to be looked at,.....
They would have to take a serious look at all the other concrete structures on that highway,I guess
Also the Big O(we),........had a large section of it fall ,a few years ago,....too!!
Well I hope noone is hurt,.but I think there are some cars still under the overpass

More than five hours later and there are vehicles trapped underneath, no word on the condition of the occupants.
I heard the tail end of the news report and saw some of pictures. Where exactly did this occur in Laval? And how many people were hurt?
So typical of the shoddy Quebec workmanship. We're like a third world country when it comes to contractors shaving a little off here and there to make a buck. When I go to old Montreal and look at the architecture of gargoyles, etc. hanging from the front of buildings, I think how they are made of cement and managed to stay there for a whole century. The cement today doesn't last even though it is reenforced with steel. Disgraceful. Ed
When I was working in Montreal in 74 we had the maintenance contract for the Metro and many an airshaft I had to go into to repair the concrete had walls paper thin and there were empty 45 gallon drums, plywood and lots of sand behind the concrete walls. I also remember driving under the metropolitain in the 90's and seeing daylight through the driving lanes above. When I was out west working on waterproofing precast concrete bridge decks, CN would not allow contractors from Quebec to build their bridges. There is also the wide scale use of salt in the winter which rapidly disintegrates concrete and the steel reinforcing. Jim Jennings
Large sections of the Decarie Expressway and other roads were built in a hurry so they would be ready for Expo 67, were they not? Remember the long lighting tubes that were installed along the edges of the cement walls on all the elevated sections and overpasses? They looked good but I don't think they survived the first winter. Once the plows went by and pushed the snow up against the sides it was good bye lights! What a waste of money! I hope the city checks out all the over passes in order to ensure their safety. It is going to be a night mare for the people going to work tomorrow. Dianne
I was just talking to my sister who lives in Beaconsfield, and as we discussed the recent overpass collapse she mentioned that many, many of the overpasses are very badly eroded. She said that even in the summer the erosion is going on from the potholes left by the winter's salt, etc. I wonder if there may be more collapses in the next couple of years. I think I would have second thoughts about using them, but then again, guess they save a lot of travelling time. So said about the one family losing 3 members.
