Editing Profiles

I recently tried to edit my profile and guess what???  It disappeared into thin air. The whole thing.   Not only that, you can't change or edit your nickname anymore.  It seems MSN has quietly integrated these changes.  It might have something to do about when I log into my Groups Home, it says that Chat is now a "Pay" site and you can only do that when you suscribe to the "New & Improved" Hotmail, for a yearly fee of course.   Thats what the Sympatico/MSN site in Canada says.  Is this the same in the US side as well??
So much for chat.  I never really used the General Chat (other than in here) in the last few years.  I'm trying to edit/change my profile and nic.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I do this now??

Mac.

FrenchMac. Make sure you are signed in at Verdun Connections, click on "my member profile" then on "edit my profile". This worked for one of my profiles but the other says "this contact does not have a profile or you do not have permission to view it". As for the chat in Verdun Connections, it is still available to all members of the group. Just make sure you are signed in. (I'm there now)

Hi French Mac,....I experience the same thing ,even on other msn sites,....and Haven't been able to open the 'Edit My Profile' area without being redirected to some sort of msn selection page,..I guess we just keep the old info,...until something changes,..evry few years msn has implied that everything goes to a user pay thing,....but so far nothing has happened,...I was in CHAT this morning with MaggieMck,....so the CHAT portion still remains free here (for now I guess) If I come across some different info ,.I'll make sure to post my findings.....                                                hf&rv

Well, I wrote to MicroSoft. Guess what I got? I think it's double talk or what may referred to as "talking in circles". Got me dizzy, anyway! Hello Margaret,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Passport Network Technical Support.

My name is Catherine and I understand you were not able to change your Microsoft Passport Network account. I know how important this matter is to you. Allow me to assist you.

Unfortunately, you can only change your Microsoft Passport Network e-mail name if the e-mail address you are using is not part of a reserved domain such as hotmail.com.

I would like to inform you that a reserved domain is managed by a company that controls the registration of all e-mail addresses within that domain.  To use an e-mail address that is part of the reserved domain, you would have to register first with the company that manages it.

For your reference, the following domains are also reserved:

  - msn.com
  - passport.com
  - compaq.net
  - webtv.net
  - charter.com
  - eso.com
  - msgamestudios.com
  - sympatico.ca

Note: This list is subject to change.

Since you will be unable to change your e-mail address, you have the option to register a new account with MSN Hotmail using your preferred e-mail name.  However, please be advised that if you choose to register a new e-mail account, this will create a new and separate Microsoft Passport Network account.  You will need to recreate the personal information, such as your MSN.com settings or your MSN Messenger contact list that you have with your existing Microsoft Passport Network account.

Thanks for your help Maggie & Les.  Yes I'm logged into Verdun Connections and tried to click on edit my profile.  Thats where the problems began.  I know the "Chat" portion of each Community is free to use (I'm waiting in chat right now) but the MSN chats are now paysites. The reason I was exploring all this is that I wanted to edit my nic to make it uniform in all the communities I belong to.  I have variations of the same nic (lower/upper case, spacing, etc.). I wanted to ask other members here before I contacted MSN about the problem. It seems they gave you double-speak, Maggie.  They addressed the e-mail name/title and not the actual nic that we use.  I'll try looking around again and contacting them myself.  I'll post anything of use to others.   Mac.

Here's an update to this problem.  Besides trying to edit my profile I want to remove my hotmail addie from all the groups I belong to hoping this will reduce the spam I've been getting.  Its down to 15 to 18 a day from a high of 45 a day.   Below is a copy of the response I got from MSN Group Support.  Seems like they're trying real "hard" to fix this problem.  They had to put in a plug for their new "Windows Live Spaces" as well.  Gotta give credit to those hard working MSN Folks. So I guess its sit & wait until they sort out the bugs.   Mac   챦쨩쩔 Hello Marc,

Thank you for writing to MSN Groups Technical Support.

My name is Dana and I am pleased to be of service to you today.

Based on your e-mail, you want to remove your Hotmail e-mail address from your Profile, but you are unable to edit your Profile through the Group. I apologize for the inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Please be advised that we are currently investigating and working (hard ?) to immediately correct this issue.

We currently do not have a definite time as to when this issue will be resolved, but we expect to have it fixed soon.

If you want to hide your e-mail address from the Group by removing it from your Profile, テあyou may follow these alternative steps:

1. Make sure that you are signed in to the Group as Member under the Microsoft Passport Network account that you used in joining the site.
2. Click "Member Tools" on the left navigation bar of the Group.
3. Click "Check Your E-mail Settings".
4. Under "E-mail", uncheck the box beside "Allow other group members to see my e-mail address".
5. Click "Save Changes".

Please also note that MSN Member Directory Profile was recently merged with MSN Spaces Profile. Soon, MSN Spaces will be "Windows Live Spaces". As a workaround for editing your Profile, you may want to create an MSN Space if you do not have one. For assistance on how to create a Space, please contact the MSN Spaces Support Team through the following steps:

1. Enter the URL below on your browser's address field:

http://support.msn.com

2. Click "MSN Spaces" in the "Standard Services" column.
3. Fill out the form, and then click the "Submit" button.

In case you already have an MSN Space, you may also edit your Profile through the following steps:

1. Make sure that you are signed in to the Group as Member under the Microsoft Passport Network account that you used in joining the site.
2. Click "Member Tools" on the left navigation bar of the Group.
3. Click "View Your Member Profile".
4. Click on your Nickname located above the "Edit my profile" button.
5. You will be redirected to your Profile page, where you can modify the information.

You are a valuable customer to MSN and we are glad to give you consistent and effective service.

Thank you for using MSN Groups.

Sincerely,

Dana

2. Click "Member Tools" on the left navigation bar of the Group.
3. Click "View Your Member Profile".
4. Click on your Nickname located above the "Edit my profile" button............then I get this.........
