I am saddened to have to pass on this information to you all. Here is an excerpt of the notice that I received from MSN today.
We deeply regret to inform you that as of Monday, April 3rd, 2006, Verdun Connections, the MSN Group, will be terminated and deleted by MSN. Group activity has surpassed the allowable bandwidth for our free sites......etc. In the last few months we have been offered "upgrades" but chose not to accept as they had a cost attached. Now we are paying the ultimate price, Verdun Connections will be no more. Please take the next day or two to save any favourite posts, pictures or documents..(and be sure to send an up-to-date email address to vcmanagement@hotmail.com )..... We'd like to take this time, on behalf of all who participated in keeping a connection to Verdun, to thank you all for making Verdun Connections what it was.

Maggie, This is very bad news. Have you considered charging a fee to cover your cost of conforming to new MSN costs. If you are still interested in continuing this adventure, you could consult your membership to see if they would be willing to pay a monthly or yearly fee. Since you already know your cost, and if you expect to loose say 25%, 50% or 75% of membership you can come up with an approximate fee for the remaining members. With a membership base of 500-600, the fee would be reasonable, I think.A survey would guide you in your decision. You may even want to make a profit to pay for your efforts. Hopefully you will consider this option. Guy

Yes, this was a good April fool's joke........but it would have not surprised me if it had been true. I heard this week that while Bill Gates is still the richest man in the world, his lead is diminishing, but I don't remember who is second.....NOT M.P.U. that is for that is for sure.

You'd be surprised how many of us "retarded/retired" people, who are not in the working world, didn't realize the significance of April 1st. Every day is a "holiday" or "special day" when one is retired.

I hope everyone has now found it in their hearts to forgive us for our little prank. I would certainly prefer this old free site but it's good to know that there would be support for the alternative. This place is very dear to me too and if I wasn't at the giving end of the prank, I may have reacted very much like some of you did.
