Today

Today we had 10 to 15 cms of snow 4 to 6 inches, and it was fantastic, it brought me back to my days of youth in Verdun when we used to be so happy to see snow, no long range weather forecasts, so snow was often a surprise, myself, Ralph McNiff, my best friend, Billy Lawlor , Garry Baker, Jimmy and Reggie Keirnan , Ewen Cameron  would  shovel with wooden shovels , a pile big enough to reach the sky , and climb way up there and jump into the pile of snow in the lane between 3rd and 2nd, we would be at it all day , if a weekend , or as late as we could if during the week , imagine, no toys , but who needed them , and you know , I don't remember any grown ups yelling at us to stop , oh was VERDUN , ever special , I hope you all realize that , hang tough   Jimmy

Today was a good day.   Very warm, no rain, sunny......and best of all....on my way home from doing some chores I came upon a great big rainbow high in the sky.  Made my day.   Just wanted to share this.    Cheers.

Hi, I remember Jean and Ed Olsen very well, went to high school with them  both.  Ed was very involved in sports all through high school.  They were in the same graduating class.  Ed passed away a few years ago, Jean is still living in Saskatchewan.

I knew the Moore's very well, Brian fell down the elevator hatch in the C I L building on corner of Dorchester and University , across from the Ville Marie,he went down 9 floors and landed on top of an elevator , he and I , were very close personal friends , we both became engaged at the same time , what a fantastic guy , he was only 24 , we used to go to the Molson Stadium to watch the Als with Percy Whitton , The Furies were also great guys, Friedie used to crack me up , they were all good people , my wife and I think about Brian often, just starting his life, his father was the President of the Elevator Union, and People used to try to make his life tough for that reason, the day he died, a friday if I remember correctly , he was working later than others and the wrench he was using slipped he lost his balance and fell nine floors down the hatchway . .hang tough  Jimmy

Hi Jimmy (kungfu),I know or knew Freddy Fure ,very well,....had to take him to the VerdunHospital to put some stitches in his head,.when he acted up around the outdoor pool ,..when he lived near the VerdunHospital,....we had to get him out of the pool,.or he never would have made the hospital........hahahah  and he laughed too,.....this was just after he separated from his wife at the time,...(the real story is best left to, if you ever sit down with my brother & I)..........hahahahah  But Freddy lived directly next door to me on 9th avenue in Lasalle,..and Roddy Diamond lived right across the street from us on (9th av, as well),........and he lived also btwn.Gordon & Rielle on the north side of Wellington,.....when we lived at 4242 Wellington, which was btwn Gordon & Galt,..........However Do you remember Shaney (spelling maybe off,) but he was a manager of Bert's Bar on Dollard, for sometime,....and he too lived across from us on 9th av,.....in the same place as Roddy ,but after he had moved from there,...............as small a world as it is ,......Roddy was (a close) associate of Roman Grawal...... I don't know how to spell the name correctly)......but Roman's nephew did a painting for me of my son,...a long time ago,.......( he had a chance at a carreer in the SIU,......but chose to move west and pursue his own deal),.............and if you know Roman ,...I;m sure our freind had a few different offers to Sail the lakes......(helps to have an Uncle ),.........he lives out here on the Westcoast,...and we (when we were younger) party'd often,.......You Jimmy may also have been in my oldmans shop,..at sometime or other,......as many people were apt to visit,.......from waterfront guys to elevator,....to every major business in Montreal in those days,....a lot of people had occassion to visit my oldmans shop.........which included Fire Chiefs ,....cops,...... and even the old Satan's Choice,..............everyone knew it,as a place,.like they like to portray Vegas today,.......what happened at my oldmans shop ,...Stayed at my oldmans shop.............hahahahahaha   I met a lot of Montreal Characters,....and learned to appreciate evryone,......................My oldman would laugh at the Story's he could tell,.but wouldn't..............( and he taught us the same)..........hahahahaha   Talk for hours and say nothing...........  Have Fun & Remember Verdun

Hi Bob,

Just to comment on the list of names, you mentioned Bobby
Simpson.. He was an old friend of the family, very close with my
brother Bob, sadly Bobby passed away about 10 years ago and his wife Judy
passed away not too long after. Bobby used to drive the Econoline delivery van
for Martins at the corner of Brown & Beurling. He'd get it loaded up, head
out around the corner, pick up a bunch of us to go for the ride and then get us
to deliver the groceries for him! He was a great guy!

Regards,

Alan
