The lumberyard that was situated on Gordon between Verdun and Bannantyne was Wilfred Leduc Lumber. It was at 675 Gordon near Verdun. This information comes from Robert Genest, previously of W.H. Genest Lumber Ltd whom we celebrated his 75th birthday yesterday.

Candy Store

Does anyone remember the candy store on second avenue...Fraser's...near Wellington?I remember going there...five cents used to buy you a big bag of candy and if you had ten cents...wow!Mr Fraser used to get so mad at us because we would take FOREVER to pick our candies...poor guy!And when you bought soft drinks you had to pull them out of a big container filled with icy water...ah...memories.
By the way...love reading all your old memories of Verdun.Going to try and dig out my old pics to share with all of you.
Carrollinda

Found this site March 15th and ...

I have been reading all the previous posts to see if I know anyone besides Second Avenue and his brother.
Linda...I was best friends with your sister Beatrice in high school...met her and her husband Gary when we were in our mid teens...bump into her now and then.
Used to go to your parents home on Briand often...your dad was a real character.
Bea told me that your mum had past away...so sorry to hear that.
Shirley...Just wondering if you had any relatives who lived on second avenue...we used to live at 377...you mentioned cousins Maureen,Colleen and Kathleen...a next door neighbor of ours used to have three girls visit her by those names...she had a son named Billy who was my dad best friend...Billy was killed in a car crash...any relative...this would of been in the fifties.
And...does anyone know the Lauries or Turners who lived on third avenue...would love to find Debbie Laurie...best friend from grade 7 and 8.
Have a happy Day...Carrollinda

Montreal Transits

Somehwere along the line (no pun intended) ,this story was deleted by it's original authour. However Montreal Transit I believe was & may still be the best transit system around. I recall that this original story showed stats that Montreal 'ridership' was the higehst per capita in North America. Perhaps these days one bus line alone in a place like Shanghai might concievably carry more riders just based on the shear number of people in the city.?? Anyone know what the stats are these days? Anyway Cheers ! LesF

Copiers & Catridges

Hey Les, I run off 100 copies a week for a project I'm working on. I am
charged 17 cents for a 2 sided copy. There selling a copier at Costco
for $350. Considering the price of cartridges maybe it would be cheaper
to continue using the copy store's machine. What do you think?

Another fire

About a week ago Clifford garage/body shop on Woodland just below Champlain was destroyed by fire. The block of houses to the left of it was also damaged as were a few cars parked in the front. I never heard anything on the news, just saw it when I drove by on Wednesday. I did not have a camera, or else would have taken a picture. Does anybody know the cause? or have any info? I remember this garage as far back as when I was a kid in the early 60's in Verdun.

Cigarette packets pinned to bike spokes.

Can anyone remember pinning flattened empty cigarette packets to our bicycle wheel spokes. We would swipe our mother's clothes pegs to pin them on. A great brrrrrr noise was made especially when we bicycled in a group. A great way to recycle ciggie packs but the old folks in the neighbourhood must have been alarmed at the noise. Contact List Entries

In response to the temporary loss of Verdun Connections on March 1, 2005, I ask that all members fill in their contact info (especially current email addresses) and keep it up to date. I can save the list on a regular basis to my PC. This way if we ever lose Verdun Connections (hopefully not) everyone can be notified of a replacement group.
