Yes I remember "bits" good one. Anyone else remember any sayings. Heres another one: When you got a new pair of shoes, usually running shoes, the black and white ones with the rubber ball on the insides where your ankle bone was, everyone would stamp on your feet and say "stampers, no returners" Or was that for when you got a new hair cut and everyone would hit you over the back of the head with their open hand and say "wackers, no returners"? Anyone remember those ones? JohnnyO

Okay..here is one for you..there was a bank in Verdun..they gave out chrome banks and you had to go back to the bank to have them opended.(Or a good knife did the job)
Montreal City & District Savings Bank .... Woodland and Verdun Ave.was one... I think the nane is complete.

What was the ice cream called that was wrapped in paper and the store keeper would put it on a regular or sugar cone? also what chocolate store was on wellington near church ave. You chose your own chocolates that you wanted in the box.

the city and district on the corner of galt and wellington was another one. we knew the manager and he gave us a key for ours. they had a little circle on the end to roll up bills and put them in

Montreal city and district savings bank.....Yes..and then they were bought out by the national bank..who was bought out by scotia. The one near Galt always smelled like a bank..money in the vault..who knows.

The City & District Savings Bank is now Banque Laurentienne. The National Bank is still the same, as is The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotia Bank).

Yep, I remember kids saying 'Bits'. In fact, from the sixties at least, I remember kids saying "Bits, bites, appetites, savers---gotcha!", the idea being that if you got out the "gotcha" before the owner of the treat could say anything, then they were obliged to give you a chunk of whatever goodies they had. Half of the time they just told you where to go (!), but the other half of the time you were able to mooch something.
The National bank was taken over by Scotia here in alberta..moved into their spots..closed others.
