Kungfu, I would have to mention a friendly Verdun cop on the street
beat during the 50s we called Red. I never learned his real name.
He always had a nice thing to say to us boys instead of the 'stink eye'
we usually received from the other policemen.

Bill. I remember that policeman also. I use to know his last name. If I ever get my brain in order and do remember I will pass it along. I think he became a detective. Winston Allison

@nd Ave.

"Red" the Verdun beat & later motorcycle cop was probably Red Ryan my
brother Ed's partner. Both did a lot to keep the real 2nd Ave. Gang ( 2nd
ave & Verdun) under control & I beleive their respect as well.

I think George Oreilly was good for the city of Verdun as well as Bryce Mackasey ( who actually had a hand in creating & implementing one of the most generous UIC deals for the times)  thats why Verdun got the UIC building built in his riding ........also Mayor Gariepy (sp?) was OK for as far as I can Remember .......Anyone else........aside from all our Mothers of course..........ahhahah

I would think my most memorable Verdunite would be Lucien Caron who was first a councillor, then Mayor and then MLA until 1985.   He died last September and I thought it odd that his passing didn't get more mention than it did.    For the longest time it seemed whenever you saw his photo on an election poster the opponents didn't stan a chance.
