MEMORIES...You guys scare me. My ex played with April Wine.  They were friends with him, and played our high school in the 70's.  I re-saw them here in Calgary in the 80's...I think the music would be too loud for me now. My sister has tickets to her favorite "Aerosmith".  She has never seen them and has always loved them. The first band I ever saw was "Black Sabbath" at the Mtl Forum when I was 12.  The BEST was Led Zepplin on my 16th birthday at the Forum.  The worse had to be Alice Cooper (had seen him several times), was on a date with Hector Pilon and none of his props worked.  Though I was thrilled Hector kissed me on the bus ride home. ha ha

I seen them here in Winnipeg at
Silverado's. I was very impressed, especially the drum solo. The opening artist
was very good also.

Steve, what part of Winnipeg do you live in and
where abouts in Verdun did you live. I also live in Winnipeg

I am living in the Garden
City area. It will be 5 years this July since I moved here from Vancouver. In
Verdun I lived on Wellington and Willibroad over the book store right
across from Steinbergs and Gregory's restaurant. Had the Savoy theater on the
opposite corner. I also lived on 6th avenue between Wellington and Lasalle. Just
before I left Verdun I was living on Godin.

Hi Colleen,

Jerry Mercer (drummer) lived on Moffat Ave and was an old friend of the family. Great to see them back out there! Just wish they would play in the Boston area! As for Aerosmith "The Bad Boys of Boston", I am sure your sister will enojy them! Since I have lived in the Boston area I have seen them on several tours over the last 15 years and have never been disappointed. The energy Steven Tyler puts out is unbelievable! With them being a "local favorite" I have bumped into them at various locations and functions and have always been impressed with the personalities. Brad Whitford owns an indoor cart racing facility just outside of Boston in Braintree and it seems to be a favorite play area for the band and their families. I was there a while ago, bumped into the band and had the chance to chat with Tyler & Tom Hamilton. All I can say is good things.. they are a favorite of mine as well. I went to see the "Get A Grip" tour in Providence RI. and the band would not go on until all the alchohol & beer signs were covered... a condition since they became clean & sober. When the show was over, the air was as clear as it was before the concert! Not used to seeing that at all!
I am sure you both will have a great time!
Enjoy!

Alan.   Was Jerry Mercer not the drummer for Mashmakan? A few of my buddies from here in Syracuse went up to Kingston last week to see April Wine, and they said it was a terrific show. By the way Alan, I am looking to have drinks/dinner at Grill 23 on June 4.   Glen

I have for years told the story of the time I went to a VCHS dance the following fall after I graduated. The band was April Wine, a band I knew little about.   We were excited about the dance and 2 of us shared a little pill. The band started up and the little pill started to work. Well I was spell bound by April Wine. I took a stacking chair and while everyone lined the walls (they were all way too cool to dance) I placed my chair directly in front of the band and spaced out for the rest of their opening set. I remember several things about that set, but most notably the drum solo. Not only did the drummer do a fantastic solo but he then tossed his drum sticks and soloed with his bare hands.   I have no doubt the band knew where my head was at and revved it up for me.   After the band went offstage, my co-tripper came over to me and was slightly freaked that I was drawing attention to myself by sitting mesmerized by April Wine. We both then felt that all eyes were on us and we split.   April Wine has left a permanent mark in my Verdun memories, and perhaps they were influential in my becoming a musician. I have always owned several of their record albums and have seen them a couple of times since . One day I will tell them of my first time seeing them.   Glen Ogilvie VCHS 1971
