Don Cherry

Hi everybody, What do you think has Don gone too far this time. Did he hurt the French players feelings. Or is the media making too big a deal again. I think Don is Old School and can say whatever he wants about the game. That is his job and that is what they pay him for. He again is no stranger to controversy that why he is there to draw the viewers and hear his take on the game. I think he says what needs to be said. The more protection you put on the players the more they will think that they are indestructable and will hit harder and not pass any thought about the high stick because you can't hurt the other guy because he is protected like Robo Cop. Soon they will be playing with a foose ball and styrifoam sticks. And lets not forget about the force fields that will be introduced in the year 2010. Dannyb

Regarding Don Cherry. Another example of PC gone amuck. In the old days that is the way we talked. " The french guys, Italian guys, Greeks, etc. No harm or slight was intended or taken. It was no more than a description. These days we could offend a grilled cheese sandwich. It seems we have a "group" for every and any cause. The media spins, twists and holds media court. Quite frankly some of these stations reflect the "National Enquirer" where one would expect such questionable content and negative Bias.  But,...thats me,...another old guy.  As I see it, Cheery was always Cheery, nothing has changed, a coach and entertainer. There is a lot more to be concerned about in this life. Language law,...offended..give me a break.

I know Don Cherry and his brother Dick very well,, Don just calls a spade a spade,, all he was pointing out was that the visors are worn mostly by the European and frencc Canadian players,, to me that makes them smarter then the idiots who don't wair them  C.Catto

hi guys peronally i think that when visors started being worn is when the players respect for each other went out of the game.we have more eye injuries today than 25 years ago.stats will also reveil that facial cuts and head injuries r on the rise.there r more concussions in hockey than in football today.and we all know that football is not a contact sport its a collision sport.   we also know that don cherry calls em as he sees em.the canadian public just cant handle the truth. would u tune into to a don cherry talking about the russian ballet,i dont think so.if the league would re-educate the players about the hockey stick and its intended use.get the stick on the ice where its supposed to be and not it the air like a flag pole.this is hockey its not a parade.the flag wavers should be penalised for their actions, not with a double minor to the sinbin, but where it hurts the most at the bank.WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR NATIONAL SPORT. JUST MY OPINION.   BIM

I agree with Chuck, although don't always agree with Cherry, He simply said masks were  being worn mostly by europeans and french hockey players, and that makes them smarter in my opinion , and yes the game is terrible since the masks, sticks are way to high , the referee"s are certainly not up to the task, The speed of the game has gone and it is now a league for monster's,to bad, sure used to love to watch the speedy players,  Ralph Backstrom, Henri, Lafleur,  those days are gone for the clutch and grab, no room out on the ice anymore, amazing that they score any goals  at all  Jimmy

Hello Everyone,   When is enough, enough!  Cherry will always have an opinion, that is why he is on TV.   You might want to read the article on MSN.  A lawyer on his own accord, can you believe that and no offense to any lawyers out there, went out and collected the stats and I believe he said that 59% of the European players where them and 55% of French Canadians where them, so Cherry was not wrong and what happened to being proud of being French Canadian! and the way they play these days no wonder they want to save their faces!   Didn't a French Canadian invent the goalie mask!   Things go too far now a days!   Take care, cbaire

Hi, I'm a former general manager of an N.H.L.team the St. Louis Blues 1973-74, and a good friend of Don's,  I personally thing the guys wearing the visors are smarter then those who, don't wear them, the puck travells faster today, and the sticks are held too high, every where on the ice,,Don is not really like what he portrays on T.V.

its an act and he gets paid for it,, I agree with you lets get on with life  Chuck Catto

You should listen to French radio and see what they say about the English Makes Don look like a pussy. He stated the truth and until someons shows me different numbers I stand behind Don.He does have a big mouth but he didn't say anything that wasn't true.

Hey Windsor. I sent a message to the CBC in support of Don. Maybe some of you can do the same. We can tell them how much we like him, and how much he means to our Hockey Night in Canada. Winston Allison

a lawyer here in Winnipeg used the internet to
research all the NHL teams and players who wear visors. Guess what they are
primarily the people Cherry says they are ( I did not want to say who and add to
the controversy)

Winnie3ave.   I have already sent Hockey night in Canada a note on this subject. I really am not a big fan of Don, or his spot on Hockey night. BUT I didn't hear him say anything that wasn't true. I have asked the people at Hockey Night to show us where Don was wrong. Its getting so you can't say the words French or Quebecer without the word wonderful in front.
